The Weyland Storm Rifle was a technologically advanced rifle manufactured by Weyland Corp in the 21st century and used heavily by off-world security. Introduced on September 10, 2024, the Storm Rifle is notable for being the first rifle able to track targets from over 500 kilometers away, as well as determine target’s health, physique and whether they can be locked down.[1] The Storm Rifle is a precursor to the M41A Pulse Rifle used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps in the 22nd century.

OverviewEdit

Fabricated from heat-resistant micro-perforated titanium, the Storm weighs 1.3 kg (empty of ammunition). With unrivaled technology like satellite-guided target detection, the Storm can track and assess a threat at over 300 miles away. At close range, it fires 5.56 mm uranium carbide spin-stabilized rounds at muzzle velocities of 800 meters per second, through auto-adjusting crosshairs which auto-process windage, Coriolis effect, trajectory, etc. The Storm Rifle is also able to determine a target's health, physique and whether the target can locked down. Via an add-on feature, the Storm Rifle is also capable of of compensating for composition, density, pressure and refractive index of supposedly any atmosphere.[1]

HistoryEdit

The Storm Rifle was introduced September 10, 2024 by Weyland Corp, making it the first rifle able to track targets from over 500 klicks away, as well as determine target’s health, physique and whether they can be locked down. The rifle was initially deployed also in 2024. On June 3, 2026 Weyland Corp earned patent number 10,445,075 for Method and Apparatus for self-adjusting crosshairs that auto-process windage, Coriolis effect, trajectory, etc. -- eliminating the need for spotters and mathematical formulas. The auto-adjusting crosshairs were subsequently incorporated into the Storm Rifle. On March 2, 2039, Weyland Corp earned patent number 13,345,075 for Method and Apparatus for an add-on feature to Weyland Storm capable of compensating for composition, density, pressure and refractive index of any atmosphere. As of 2074, the "classic" Storm had been part of over 7,000 colonial peace-keeping missions since its initial deployment in 2024.[1]

TriviaEdit

  • Like the M41A, the Storm Rifle appears to incorporate an ammo counter and some type of underbarrel weapon, most likely a shotgun or a grenade launcher. However, why a weapon with such colossal range would need a close-quarters attachment such as this has never been explained.
  • The USCSS Prometheus was supposedly equipped with Weyland Storm Rifles,[citation needed] although they are never seen in the film Prometheus.
