"Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you!"
"Heeey, that's right!"
―Pvt. Hudson and Wierzbowski (from Aliens)

Private Trevor Wierzbowski,[1] nicknamed "Ski",[4] was a member of the United States Colonial Marine Corps, part of 2nd Battalion Bravo Team.[5] He was a member of the combat unit deployed to LV-426 aboard the USS Sulaco in 2179, to investigate the sudden loss of contact with the colony of Hadley's Hope. He subsequently perished as a result of the Xenomorph infestation at the colony.

Wierzbowski was part of First Squad's rifle team, along with Private Crowe.[6] He was lost during the early stages of the operation, although it is unclear if he was killed outright or taken and later impregnated with a Chestburster.

Biography[]

Processor ambush[]

"AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH"
"Wierzbowski? Wierzbowski?!"
"AAAARRRGGGHHH"
―Pvt. Wierzbowski and Cpl. Hicks, as the former is attacked by a Xenomorph (from Aliens)

Inside the Atmosphere Processing Plant at Hadley's Hope, Wierzbowksi was one of the first to come to the aid of Private Frost and Corporal Dietrich when the Marines were first ambushed by Drones, not realizing the bag containing the section's confiscated Pulse Rifle ammunition was on fire at the scene. Corporal Hicks pulled Wierzbowski away from the flaming satchel, but the subsequent blast still knocked him off of his feet. Hicks immediately tended to him before leaving to check on Private Crowe, also thrown by the blast. After Hicks left, Wierzbowski was violently attacked by a Xenomorph. While it is beyond doubt that he subsequently perished — either killed by a Xenomorph or carried away to be host to a Chestburster — the lack of a body led to Wierzbowski being officially listed as M.I.A.[1]

Equipment[]

Wierzbowski was outfitted with standard issue M3 Pattern Personal Armor, which he had customized by adding "SPAM IN A CAN" along with hand drawn art to his back protection and a humorous "SPARE WEAPON" tag painted on his crotch protection,[7][8] and an M10 Pattern Ballistic Helmet, which he had also customized by adding ""SKI"" above his name,[7] for protection. His armor was also equipped with a TNR Shoulder Lamp attachment for illumination, and he carried an M240 Incinerator Unit as his primary weapon on the Hadley's Hope mission.

Personality and Traits[]

Private Wierzbowski was arguably the most reserved member of the unit, rarely making himself noticed. Regardless, he still seemed to be a valued member of the team as Hicks desperately tried to locate him when he was taken during the ambush. Apone also sends him off into the complex alone, suggesting he is more than capable of handling himself in such situations.

Behind the Scenes[]

Originally, more footage was filmed of Wierzbowski being injured by the explosion of the ammunition in the Hive. Additionally, Hicks helped prop him up against a wall afterwards before going to check on Crowe. This footage was not used in the final film, nor was it reinstated in the extended Special Edition.[9]

Trivia[]

Wierzbowski gives Gorman the finger

Wierzbowski (far right) giving Gorman the finger.

  • After Lieutenant Gorman's briefing, Wierzbowski can be seen giving Gorman the finger after hearing the unrealistically tight time limit imposed upon the Marines for preparations (right hand side of the screen, hands only).
  • Wierzbowski wears a simple-style ring on his left ring finger, indicating that he is married.
  • In the comic Aliens: Newt's Tale, Wierzbowski is taken alive to be cocooned during the ambush instead of Apone.[10]
  • There is a now defunct website dedicated to Wierzbowski known as Wierzbowski Hunters, a fandom sight dedicated solely to the character. Something of a running joke in fandom is that out of all the Colonial Marines featured in Aliens, the "Wierz-man" gets the least amount of screen time, to the point of having essentially no significant lines.
  • Ironically, despite his status as arguably the least significant Marine in the film, Wierzbowski is one of the more vocal characters in the movie's novelization; prior to his death in the Atmosphere Processor, Wierzbowski speaks many of the lines eventually given to other characters in the film. Furthermore, the novel states that, out of all of the Marines, Ripley liked Wierzbowski in particular and was saddened when he was taken by the Xenomorphs.[11]
  • Wierzbowski's name implies he is of Polish descent.
  • Before the release of the video game Aliens: Colonial Marines, Wierzbowski was rumored to be the surviving Marine featured in the game's story, to the point where voice actor Josh Ridgway was listed on IMDb as playing the character.[12] However, this was eventually revealed to be false, and the surviving Marine featured in the game is in fact Corporal Hicks.
  • When Hudson notices that Dietrich and Apone are alive, he doesn't mention Wierzbowski, suggesting that he may have been killed outright by the Drone that attacked him.
  • Wierzbowski is briefly mentioned in the novelization of Alien 3: The Unproduced Screenplay. Hicks recalled a night out drinking with Wierzbowski where he had called him a cheap drunk, the latter too intoxicated to acknowledge the comment.[13]
