The Joker, commonly nicknamed the Clown Prince of Crime, is a supervillain based in Gotham City, often considered to be Batman's nemesis and greatest foe. At times a goofy trickster-thief, at others a vicious, calculating, psychopathic killer, the Joker's true identity remains somewhat unclear; he began as a petty criminal known only by the alias "Red Hood", who fell into a vat of chemicals during a confrontation with Batman. Following the accident, he emerged with white skin, green hair, a bizarre grin, and driven totally insane.
Behind the Scenes
The Joker was created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson for DC Comics. He first appeared in Batman, Vol. 1 #1 in 1940.
