Ray Lago is an American comic book artist and cover painter who has provided cover art for several comic books in Dark Horse's Predator line.
Biography[]
Starting as a freelance illustrator for such clients as Reader's Digest, Scholastic Books, Doubleday & Co. and various ad agencies over two decades ago, Lago worked on everything from storyboarding to logo design, and early computer graphics for NBC News, ABC News and PBS's McNeil/Lehrer News Hour.
Rago eventually left this lucrative commercial art career to pursue his real love, drawing and painting people, with a focus on Comix & Fantasy art. So he began drawing and painting for the comic book industry, what he describes as "the best move" he ever made.
Rago quickly became and acclaimed comics cover painter and went on to work for industry giants — such as Marvel Comics — and independent companies — such as the then fledgling Dark Horse Comics — for major magazines and the small press. This would include his work on the Predator and RoboCop franchises for Dark Horse.
He also studied art anew with famed realist painter Burton Silverman, leading to him becoming one of the top cover painters in the industry. His work was notably featured in the X-Men Ultra collector's card series alongside other industry greats.
Over a decade ago, the first collected book of Lago's artwork, Ray Lago: Heroes & Angels, was published by Archangel Entertainment.
