The RT Series Group Transport,[1] also known as the Rover,[2] was an armored personnel carrier[2] produced by Weyland Corp.[2] One of Weyland Corp's most popular and best-selling products, the RT Series Group Transport's shape-memory alloy wheel system had nano-reinforced hard-composite treads that could resist temperatures up to 2000°F.[1] Its ceramic gas turbine engine had .4 million pounds of thrust making its cargo weight virtually unlimited.[1] With an 5.7 meter wheelbase, the personnel bay could fit up to 20 occupants.[1]

When the USCSS Prometheus departed for LV-223, it carried three RTs in its hangar. Two were in the standard configuration, but another one had an open bed to transport and deploy an ATV NR6.[2] All RT Series Group Transports aboard the ship were presumably destroyed when the Prometheus collided with the Juggernaut above the surface of LV-223.

As of 2186, RT Series transports retained mass popularity, and were regularly seen on colony worlds across the Frontier.

Looks for the RT Series Group Transport covered a lot of territory, ranging from hovercraft to trailer rigs to even flight-capable configurations.[2] In fact, most of the different RT designs allowed for some form of aerial travel, even as late as the final RT design seen in the film.[2] Some concept art for the hovercraft-like RT (seen to the right) featured a Weyland logo which strangely, rather than being based on the version in the 1979 film Alien (directed by Prometheus director Ridley Scott), was based on the design seen in the 1986 sequel to Alien, Aliens.

Three RT Series Group Transports, built upon the chassis of Tatra T813s used by the military of the Czech Republic, were constructed for Prometheus, including one with an open bed to transport and deploy an ATV NR6.[2]

On display[]

An RT prop was on display at the premiere of Prometheus, which took place on May 31, 2012. The RT was parked in front of the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, a few minutes walk away from the blue carpet.[4]

An RT prop used in Prometheus and a functioning ATV[5] were later donated to the Conventry Transport Museum.[6] The museum acquired the props when they were was contacted by someone who worked on the film offering to donate them.[6]

They arrived in Coventry earlier in the week of July 11, 2012[5] on the back of a low-loader and were driven into the museum.[6] It took "some to-ing and fro-ing with Fox and a bit of a headache about how [they] were going to fit them in the Museum".[6] The RT was driven by the person who delivered them, and there were a few "hairy moments" as there are no mirrors, so the driver can only see a limited area at the front of the vehicle, and the RT is "blummin massive."[6] According to the museum's marketing manager Stephanie Brown, "there was about 6” clearance on either side as it came through the Museum’s loading doors."[6]

The museum planned to keep it on display for several months starting July 14, 2012,[5] or as Stephanie Brown said, "as long as there is interest in them."[6]

Gary Hall, Chief Executive at Coventry Transport Museum, said of the acquisition:[5]

"We are absolutely over the moon to have been given these two incredible vehicles – it is very unusual for film studios to allow vehicles from major motion pictures to go on display. This is therefore a huge coup for us as a Museum, and we are extremely privileged to be able to give the public a chance to get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that they have seen on the big screen in Prometheus."
