RB-232, nicknamed "The Cold Forge", was a secretive scientific research space station operated by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation orbiting the star Kauffman in uncharted space beyond the Frontier, approximately ten parsecs away from Earth. The entire station was dedicated to the manufacture of adaptive weapons, biological, artificial intelligence, and software, which is how it came to be known amongst the crew as the Cold Forge.
Overview[]
The secret space station was operating, very close to the Kauffman dwarf star that provided the station and its reflective surface the perfect camouflage. The station was shaped like a barbell: On one side are the crew quarters. The central strut of the station stretches for at least a half of a mile, with sockets for additional prefab modules along the way. At the other extreme lies the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, or SCIF. The SCIF is one hundred and thirty thousand square feet of specialized laboratories, servers, and workstations. It's designed for scientists to work in concert and float between projects via a half-mile of corridors connecting a hundred tiny rooms.
AI mainframe[]
RB-232 has two AI mainframes:
- Titus, a console in the center of a round chamber, is for total station control by assisting crew members with non-project data.
- Juno is the crew's interface to the AI mainframe from inside the SCIF. Juno deals with classified information.

- According to author Alex White, the "RB" in RB-232's designation has no in-universe meaning and actually stands for Red Bull — he is a fan of Formula 1 racing driver Daniel Ricciardo, who from 2014-1018 drove for the Red Bull team.[1]
