Predator is a comic book short story that was first published by Dark Horse Comics in Free Comic Book Day: Aliens/Predator in May 2009. It was written by John Arcudi, illustrated and inked by Javier Saltares, inked by Howard and Mark Irwin, colored by Wes Dzioba, lettered by Nate Piekos and edited by Chris Warner and Samantha Robertson, with cover art by Zach Howard and Brad Anderson. The story served to relaunch the Predator comics lines after a ten-year hiatus and was a prequel to the four-issue series Predator: Prey to the Heavens, produced by the same creative team.

In the Predator comics line, Predator (2009 short story) was preceded by Predator: Xenogenesis, and was followed by Predator (2009 series).

The comic introduces the East African Predator incursion that features in the subsequent Predator miniseries.

Reprint HistoryEdit

A second version of Free Comic Book Day: Aliens/Predator was published shortly after the initial release, as part of Aliens Day, featuring an Aliens variant cover by Chris Warner. In this release, the Predator short story was billed as a "special bonus story".

The story was later included in the trade paperback release of Predator: Prey to the Heavens, released in April 2010.

The Predator story was released digitally through Dark Horse Digital on October 12, 2012.
