The predator, (sometimes referred to as The Yautja outside of the movies canon), are a fictional species featured in the movies Predator, Predator 2, Alien vs. Predator, and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. They are most widely known for their distinctive Cloaking Devices, which allow them to become nearly invisible.
The Predators are an extraterrestrial race whose warrior civilization seems to revolve around the concept of hunting for sport. They are depicted as excellent hunters, who travel from world to world in search of any prey which is a formidable opponent, for no reason other than the challenge and thrill of the hunt. They then stalk and kill their prey using an arsenal of highly advanced weaponry and devices, combining high-tech gadgets such as energy weapons and invisibility cloaking devices, to simplistic tools such as blades and spears, before taking their defeated opponents skulls and spines as a trophy. They have a long and involved history with many species they hunt, including humans and other Xenomorph animals. There are, however, certain customs which the Predators follow, or must follow; they do not kill anyone who is unarmed, sick, or pregnant. If a human is successful in killing at least one Predator in combat, that human would be given a weapon by the Elder Predator, usually the Spear, as a sign of respect for a brother warrior and equal.

[edit] Predator
First appearing in the 1987 film, Predator, the titular character lands on Val Verde via a spacecraft. It begins hunting down a United States Army Special Forces group, allegedly stationed there to rescue presidential cabinet ministers kidnapped by guerrilla forces (however the group was actually used to eliminate the rebels). The Predator dispatches the soldiers one by one with a vast array of weaponry until Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is the last one alive. The two later engage each other in single combat, which is at first dominated by the Predator, until Dutch sets a trap which seriously injures the creature. The dying Predator commits suicide and tries to take Dutch with him by activating a self-destruct device.
[edit] Predator 2
Appearing later in the 1990 sequel set 10 years after the events of the first film, a new Predator sets its sights on Los Angeles, attracted by the summer heat and the drug wars between the Jamaican and Colombian druglords, as well as the L.A.P.D. attempting to fight both gangs. The Predator first targets a group of Colombian gunmen during a one sided shootout against the L.A.P.D. officers until the arrival of Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover). Shortly thereafter, the Predator kills a group of Jamaican gang members in the process of executing one of their Colombian rivals. The Predator then begins actively targeting the L.A.P.D. officers attempting to investigate its handiwork, specifically Harrigan's three partners (Ruben Blades, Maria Conchita Alonso and Bill Paxton), as well as a federal agency group led by Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) bent on capturing it. The Predator is ultimately confronted by Harrigan in its own ship and killed when Harrigan uses its own weapons against it. The Predator's clan-mates carry away the dead Predator's body and give Harrigan an 18th century Flintlock as a sign of respect.
[edit] Alien vs. Predator
In 2007, a satellite detects a mysterious heat bloom beneath Bouvetøya, an island about one thousand miles north of Antarctica. Billionaire Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) assembles a team of scientists to investigate the heat source and claim it for his multinational communications company Weyland Industries. The team includes paleontologists, archaeologists, linguistic experts, drillers, mercenaries, and a female guide named Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan).
As a Predator ship reaches Earth's orbit, it blasts a hole through the ice towards the source of the heat bloom. When the humans arrive at the site above the heat source, an abandoned whaling station, they find this hole and descend beneath the ice. They discover a mysterious pyramid and begin to explore it, finding evidence of a civilization predating written history and what appears to be a sacrificial chamber filled with human skeletons with ruptured rib cages.
Meanwhile, three Predators land and kill the humans on the surface, making their way down to the pyramid and arrive just as the team unwittingly powers up the structure. An Alien queen awakens from cryogenic stasis and begins to produce eggs, from which facehuggers hatch and attach to several humans trapped in the sacrificial chamber. Chestbursters emerge from the humans and quickly grow into adult Aliens. Conflicts erupt between the Predators, Aliens, and humans, resulting in several deaths. Unbeknownst to the others, a Predator is implanted with an Alien embryo.
Through translation of the pyramid's hieroglyphs the explorers learn that the Predators have been visiting Earth for thousands of years. It was they who taught early human civilizations how to build pyramids, and were worshipped as gods. Every 100 years they would visit Earth to take part in a rite of passage in which several humans would sacrifice themselves as hosts for the Aliens, creating the "ultimate prey" for the Predators to hunt. If overwhelmed, the Predators would activate their self-destruct weapons to eliminate the Aliens and themselves. The explorers deduce that this is why the current Predators are at the pyramid, and that the heat bloom was to attract humans for the purpose of making new Aliens to hunt.
The remaining humans decide that the Predators must be allowed to succeed in their hunt so the Aliens do not reach the surface. As the battle continues most of the characters are killed, leaving only Alexa and a single Predator to fight against the Aliens. The two form an alliance and use the Predator’s self-destruct device to destroy the pyramid and the remaining Aliens. Alexa and the Predator reach the surface, where they battle the escaped Alien queen. They defeat the queen by attaching its chain to a water tower and pushing it over a cliff into the water, dragging the queen to the ocean floor. The Predator, however, dies from its wounds.
A Predator ship uncloaks and several Predators appear. They collect their fallen comrade and present Alexa with one of their spear weapons in recognition of her skill as a warrior. As they retreat into space, a chestburster erupts from the dead Predator. It appears to be an Alien/Predator hybrid(predalien), as it has the characteristic mandibles of both creatures.
[edit] Aliens vs Predator: Requiem
Set immediately after the previous film, we once again see the Predalien hybrid on board the Predator ship in space above Earth. It appears to immediately grow to full adult size and sets about killing the hunters on-board the ship, causing it to crash in Colorado. The last survivor activates a distress beacon with a video of the Predalien, which is received by a veteran Predator who sets off towards Earth. When he arrives the Predator tracks the Aliens into a section of the sewer below town. He removes evidence of their presence as he goes by using a powerful solovent capable of dissolving all organic matter. He uses a laser net to try to contain the creatures, but when his dual plasma cannons misfire in a fight, the Aliens escape into the town above, and he fashions a "plasma pistol" from his remaining plasma caster. The Predator tracks and kills Aliens all across town (accidentally cutting the power to the town as he does so). During a confrontation with human survivors, the Predator looses his plasma pistol. The Predator then fights the Predalien singlehandedly, though the battle is interrupted when the US military drops a tactical nuclear bomb on the town, incinerating both combatants. The salvaged plasma pistol is then taken to Ms. Yutani.

The Yautja clans are governed by a Council of Ancients which consist of the oldest of the race. Their word is considered law and they ensure that the many Clans follow the law. Inter clan warfare is watched over by the Ancients and they decide matters such as which planet is considered a clans hunting ground. (AvP Extinction)
A high born Yautja was encountered by the Iron Bear Rykov who believed the hunter to be a "prince" among his race which suggests a possible royalty among their species. (AvP 2)
[edit] Non-Canon
In the Non-Canon forms of the Predator character, the Predators are shown to hunt not for sport, but rather for honor. They have developed a whole tribal culture around their status at the top of the food chain, as the ultimate predator. Their code of honor dictates what makes a worthy adversary, and thus will make a Predator or clan more respected.
[edit] Predator known rules
Through out the films there are some facts you can learn about the predators:
- They do not kill anyone that is unarmed.
- They do not kill anyone that is ill.
- They do not kill anyone that is pregnant.
- If they lose a battle they will most of the time commit suicide by blowing themselves up.
