"Prototype sonic-harpoon artillery remote projectile (SHARP) rifle; fires time-delayed explosive tipped darts that embed themselves into enemies or terrain."
Armat P9 S.H.A.R.P. Rifle description (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)

The Armat P9 Sonic Harpoon Artillery Remote Projectile Rifle (SHARP Rifle), nicknamed the Sharp Stick after its unique ammunition, is an American semi-automatic prototype weapon firing time-delayed explosive-tipped darts. The weapons saw limited use with the United States Colonial Marine Corps.

Overview[]

As its designation and nickname suggests, the P9 SHARP Rifle is a portable, explosive weapon undergoing field trials.[1] Compared to the M41A Pulse Rifle series, the P9 is bulkier and heavier to carry. But this mechanism allows the rifle to fire explosive-tipped darts at distances without trouble. It sports an accessory rail on top of the weapon, allowing the operator to mount various optics for specialized uses, in game however, no such optic modifications cannot be applied. The weapon features an LCD counter and a charging handle at the left side of the weapon, as the weapon's design is based from the M41A's.

The weapon's advantages is availability and its portability in an explosive package. Unlike the M5 RPG which is only available in limited areas during an operation and the fact that the operator needs to discard the RPG should its 4-round magazine deplete, the P9 is available as part of a marine's loadout, and thus, it can be used more often in the field without any offsite support. Its magazine stores 10 darts, compared to the RPG's 4, and it can be reloaded without any trouble.

One thing to keep in mind is the operator's distance between them and the target, should the operator fire the weapon at such as close distance, the operator will risk self-damage from the blast or shrapnel from the blast. The weapon cannot support any alternative fires to remedy the problem in short distances or in specialized uses.

Ammunition[]

9X-E sticky explosive dart[1]: In addition to various dart types,[1] the prototype P9 rifle fires timed-delayed explosive-tipped darts which sticks onto surfaces upon impact and detonate shortly after a few seconds. The dart itself sends out a red pulse that indicates its detonation radius, should a non-IFF (Identification Friend Foe) target be in the radius of the zone or when directly hit, the dart will detonate prematurely after a fraction of a second,[1] acting as an impromptu area of denial device. It cannot be used as mines due to the immediate presence of the red pulse emitted by the dart and its lifetime. It can take down heavy targets with ease.

Notable Users[]

As a prototype weapon, the P9 saw limited use within the USCM. Notably, Corporal Christopher Winter (and characters in co-op) of the USS Sephora may have used this weapon over the course of the game's events, although he can switch it to any other weapon that he has in the game. No other character used this weapon as a result of this.

Behind the Scenes[]

The P9 is only available if the corresponding DLC was bought. This weapon, like the other DLC weapons featured in the game, cannot be customized or upgraded in the Marine Loadout menu.

Trivia[]

  • The "Sharp Sticks" are based on boasts made by Hudson in the extended Special Edition of Aliens.
  • Despite having a scope attached which is seen as a photo in the Steam page of the weapon (seen in the infobox), no such feature can be done in in-game, due to the nature of the weapon itself; being a DLC weapon. This error is reversed with the XM99A Phased Plasma Pulse Rifle, where it is shown without the scope. Despite the weapon comes pre-attached ingame.
