"She keeps saying, 'El Diablo vino por ellos.' The Devil came for them."
―Det. Cantrell (from Predator 2)

Vega's mistress, also known as Isabel "Izzy" Maria Theresa O'Higgins Pavez,[3] was the sole survivor of the City Hunter's rampage through her lover Ramon Vega's apartment in Los Angeles in 1997.

Biography[]

Apartment rampage[]

Vega's mistress was making love to Vega when several heavily armed members of the Jamaican Voodoo Posse burst into the apartment, seeking to kill Vega as part of the ongoing drug war between the Jamaicans and his Colombian Scorpions organization. Vega was strung up by his ankles from the ceiling and his mistress was made to watch, both still naked, as the Jamaicans ritualistically cut out his heart.

It is not clear whether the Jamaicans planned to kill Vega's mistress or let her go, but before they could act the City Hunter burst in and slaughtered the Jamaicans in short order. However, Vega's mistress, being unarmed, was spared.

Discovery[]

The mistress was later discovered by Detective Lieutenant Mike Harrigan and his team of detectives, and was taken into police custody as a witness. However, on her way to the hospital she was abducted by Peter Keyes and his men, who interrogated her regarding the Predator that she had seen.[4]

The Humboldt Current Encounter[]

Izzy was apart of the expedition, in the Humboldt current, where a Chilean fishing boat spotted a Yautja vessel enter the waters. She introduced herself to Captain Cromartie and his team, while also avoiding touching any of their firearms, likely knowing of the hunter's preference for armed prey. She was able to prepare the team aboard the boat with their scuba gear and told them they'd have to move fast, explaining they'd reach their destination in 2 hours time. Once they arrived, the team dove into the ocean and searched for the hunter, however after a brief skirmish below the waves, what was left of the team surfaced and was aided by Izzy aboard. Izzy asked what transpired beneath the waves, which made her learn that Couder was now gone and that the creature ambushed them, likely taking Matteson alive. She tended to another injured teammate, pulling a piece of the spear out of his body and ordering him to rest.

The team would then prep for another run at the Yautja, but not before Izzy offered to go with them and give them field support. Cromartie however, ordered her to stay put and if they didn't come back in 2 hours to leave.[5]

After the team returned with the body of their fallen comrade, the team believed Matteson still alive, so they were going to head down again, only with Izzy along with them. She still didn't take a weapon either and followed them into a nearby cave, where they were ambushed again, only this time by Tardigrades. They managed to find that the cave wasn't entirely flooded, leading to them to take a break for a moment, hearing what sounded like seismic tremors from a volcano. They found themselves dealing with a cramped hole, leading into another unflooded cave, where they removed their scuba gear and one of the men offered her a weapon, still refusing to take it. They ventured further into the cave, following the tracking beacon on Matteson, which was where they found the cavern Matteson was in seemingly vacant. Izzy was with Rafe, who explained that they found Matteson alive and that he'd explain later. The pair would soon feel the tremors and continued to meet up with Brahm and Matteson, which was where they found the two under attack.[6]

Izzy and Rafe also came under attack by another tardigrade, leading to them blasting it with their weapons. They found themselves in another small cavern, which was very hot and Rafe was able to stab at the tardigrade with his knife. They found not long after, that the creature was gone, but they were being stalked by the hunter they came for, however as she ran with Rafe, the seismic activity caused a small explosion from the volcano to open a small hole close to her. She witnessed the Yautja as he strung up Rafe and went to his aid, as a tardigrade attacked the hunter. She cut the cable holding Rafe by his neck and told him they had to flee. As the Yautja continued to engage the tardigrade, they stumbled upon Matteson, who was still alive, but so was the hunter, as he defeated the tardigrade. They plotted to use a flare to disrupt his infrared, only this hunter was more cunning, grabbing Rafe by the neck before he could attack, but this didn't deter the agent, as he wailed on him with two rocks, knocking his helmet off.

As Rafe engaged the Yautja in melee combat, Izzy, with very little choice, took up a weapon and blasted the hunter with it. The hunter was then grabbed by another tardigrade and pulled under the waves and Izzy tending to an injured Rafe. Following this, Izzy revealed she was a specially trained combat agent who underwent intensive psych therapy and Rafe asked her to marry him, only for her to say "Why Rafe, I'd love to marry you. But as they say in the movies, I'd have to kill you" before leaving back for the boat.[7]
