"Winter! Grab your torch and cut me the hell out of here!"
Keyes to Cpl. Winter

Keyes was a member of the United States Colonial Marine Corps. He was part of a search and rescue mission sent to LV-426 aboard the USS Sephora in 2179 to investigate the disappearance of the USS Sulaco and its crew 17 weeks earlier. Keyes died early in the mission after being impregnated with a Chestburster.

Biography[]

Investigating the Sulaco and Capture[]

"Shoot that thing!"
Keyes to Winter

Keyes was part of Rhino 2-3, the first team sent aboard the USS Sulaco to investigate the ship. Rhino 2-3 discovered the Xenomorph infestation on the Sulaco and all of Rhino 2-3, except for Private Clarison, were captured by the Xenomorphs and cocooned in a hive in engineering. When Corporal Winter arrived, he was too late to save most of Rhino 2-3, though he discovered Keyes cocooned to one of the walls.

Rescue and Retrieving the Flight Recorder[]

"We have to know what caused this. The flight recorder can get us that!"
Keyes to Cruz

Just as Winter approached him, Keyes came to, disorientated and not knowing where he is. He told Winter to cut him down but as Winter attempted to do so, he was attacked by a Lurker that was hiding in the wall next to Keyes. Keyes shouted to Winter to kill it. After Winter subdued the Lurker, he cut down Keyes and the two were ordered by Captain Cruz to return to the Sephora.

After a brief verbal altercation between Keyes and Cruz, Keyes decided to disobey the orders and took Winter with him to retrieve the nearby flight recorder. After they got Private O'Neal to cover for them, the two encountered heavy Xenomorph activity on their way to the flight recorder. While Winter extracted the flight recorder, Keyes sealed the door shut behind them but a Xenomorph Drone broke through the window, startling Keyes and causing him to fall over. Despite this, he managed to blow the Xenomorph apart with his shotgun. Winter then handed the flight recorder to Keyes before they headed back to meet up with Rhino 2-1.

Final Stand and Death[]

"On the dropship! Watch this! Grenade out!'"
"Keyes! Wait!"
Keyes and Winter

On their way back they encountered heavy Xenomorph resistance. Once they made it back to the hangar and shut the door behind them, one Xenomorph tried to pry the door open but Keyes blew its head off. After he opened the door to the hangar, he noticed a Xenomorph on the Smart Ass and threw an M40 HEDP Grenade at it which then blew up an idle missile, causing severe damage to the Smart Ass and causing Winter to admonish him.

The explosion from Keyes' grenade caused the hangar door to lock, so Keyes had to run a bypass on it while Winter, O'Neal and Paluski defended the barricade. After they got it open, the Marines fell back and closed the door behind them. They then tried to use the umbilical to escape the Sulaco but about halfway through, the Chestburster inside Keyes erupted. Keyes used an M40 HEDP Grenade to blow himself up which destroyed the umbilical and caused the death of Paluski.

Personality and traits[]

"Are you out of your damned mind?"
Winter to Keyes

Keyes had the typical personality of a Colonial Marine but was far more reckless and impulsive. He disobeyed orders and unnecessarily blew up a UD-4L "Cheyenne" Dropship which could have been used to escape. He also killed and endangered fellow Marines to end his own pain when his Chestburster started emerging.

Equipment[]

"You move your skinny ass and run a bypass on the god damn door, Keyes!"
O'Neal to Keyes

Like most Marines, Keyes wore standard-issue M3 Pattern Personal Armor for protection; his armor was fitted with a TNR Shoulder Lamp attachment for illumination. He also wore an M10 Pattern Ballistic Helmet with a devil pinup painted on it and a pack of cigarettes strapped to the side. He had customized his armor vest with the phrase "Tag you're it!" and several tally marks below it on the chest plate. His armor also had several shotgun shells strapped to either side of the vest and a pouch strapped to the right side of the vest. Keyes carried several pouches on his waist around the belt. He also carried a pouch and 3 grenades strapped to his left leg. After Keyes was rescued by Cpl. Winter, he grabbed an M37A2 Pump Shotgun from the floor and used it as his weapon of choice. He also carried an M4A3 Service Pistol and an M314 Motion Tracker. He briefly used a ComTech Hacking Device to bypass the hangar door on the Sulaco. He also had at least two M40 HEDP Grenades on him.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible to kill the Lurker before attempting to cut down Keyes. If you fire upon the curled up Lurker, Keyes will repeat the same lines as when it ambushes you.
