Jernigan[4] was the leader[1] of the salvage team that recovered the shuttle Narcissus in 2179. Jernigan's ship, GM28223[5], happened upon the shuttle after it had been drifting through space for 57 years following the incident aboard the USCSS Nostromo. In doing so, they rescued Ellen Ripley and undoubtedly saved her life.

On May 16, 2179 Jernigan and his team detected the Narcissus as it drifted unmanned through deep space.[4] They immediately made to board the craft, hoping to salvage and sell the vessel and its on-board equipment. After cutting through the shuttle's hatch and scanning the interior with remotely-operated equipment, Jernigan and his crew mates, Landers and Fleet, cautiously went aboard to investigate.[4] They quickly found Ripley and Jones alive and well inside one of the two cryotubes within, lamenting that the presence of live personnel on board meant they would not be salvaging anything.
Equipment[]
Jernigan wore a yellow bio-isolation suit with gas mask that featured climate control systems that could be adjusted by the wearer.[6] He also carried a portable light.[7]
Trivia[]
- Jernigan is never named in Aliens or its novelization; his name was not revealed until the novel Alien: River of Pain.[4]
- While the salvager in the 1986 film Aliens was uncredited, actor Stuart Milligan later reprised the role as Jernigan in the 2017 audio drama Alien: River of Pain.
- The deep-salvage team's bio-isolation suits and equipment were originally created for the 1981 feature film Outland before being repurposed for Aliens.
