Flare-ai

A flare found aboard Sevastopol Station in 2137.

A flare was a type of pyrotechnic that produces a brilliant light or intense heat without an explosion. Flares were used for signalling, illumination, or defensive countermeasures in civilian and military applications. Flares could be ground pyrotechnics, projectile pyrotechnics, or parachute-suspended to provide maximum illumination time over a large area. Projectile pyrotechnics could be dropped from aircraft, fired from rocket or artillery, or deployed by flare guns or handheld percussive tubes.

Weyland-Yutani manufactured a model of flare used aboard Sevastopol Station.

Overview[]

In 2004, the Weyland Industries expedition to Bouvetøya, Antarctica made use of flares to light their way through the Norwegian fishing station on the island and the Yautja Pyramid under it. Flatres manufactured by Weyland-Yutani were used aboard Sevastopol Station in 2137 and in the Fiorina 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit on Fiorina "Fury" 161 in 2179, where they were labeled as mining flares. Additionally, the United States Colonial Marine Corps utilized M-94 Marking Flares.
