Idrissa Akuna "Idris" Elba (born September 6, 1972) is an English actor, producer, writer, singer, rapper and DJ who played Janek in the 2012 film Prometheus, as well as the 2012 short film Prometheus Transmission. Other notable films Elba has appeared in include 28 Weeks Later (2007), Thor (2011), Pacific Rim (2013), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019). Aside from his work in film, Elba has had an extensive career in television. He is perhaps best known for his roles in two critically acclaimed crime drama series — Russell "Stringer" Bell in The Wire (2002-2004) and DCI John Luther in Luther (2010-2013).

Elba has won a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for a further two Golden Globes and three Emmys.
