Darko Macan (born 1966) is a Croatian author and illustrator who wrote the comics Aliens: Border Lines and Aliens: 45 Seconds for Dark Horse Comics.
In the comics field, Macan is perhaps best known for his work with Star Wars comics, also for Dark Horse, for which he wrote the series Chewbacca, Jedi vs. Sith and X-Wing: Rogue Squadron: The Phantom Affair; and for his Eisner-Award nominated work on Grendel Tales.
Biography[]
Born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1966, Macan is also an author, illustrator nd edior who also writes essays, science fiction and fantasy.
After receiving a degree in history and archeology from the University of Zagreb, Macan wrote and drew many comics, mostly in Croatian. In 1993 he broke into the American comics industry when he and fellow Croatian artist, the late Edvin Biuković submitted their work to Dark Horse. He has also done Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse for Disney comics.
As a prose writer, he has sold more than forty science fiction and fantasy short stories, two science fiction novels and three children's books. He has won four SFERA Awards and two Grigor Vitez Awards. He has also written essays about comics Under the pseudonym Cecile Quintal. He was editor of nine Annual Collections of Croatian SF. He is editor-in-chief of the "Q strip" comics magazine.
In his time workin in the American comics field, Macan has been nominated for the Eisner Award twice (Grendel Tales: Devils and Deaths and Prayer to Sun).
He still lives and works in Zagreb.
