"My brother works for the news net. He says the Corporation has special teams for problem solving. I don't remember all the names, but the Iron Bears definitely came up. They've been accused of kidnappings, assassinations, mass murders... you name it. There's a joke that the only problem with sending the Bears to educate a town is that afterward, there's no more town."
―A Weyland-Yutani guard

The Iron Bears were a merchant military unit that was employed by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation on LV-1201 and operated under the watchful eye of Dr. Eisenberg. It was commanded by General Vasili Rykov, a former Colonial Marine with a history of fighting Predators nearly two decades ago. Accompanying the Iron Bears were Weyland-Yutani combat androids, offering additional manpower to their operations.

History[]

Upon the arrival of the USCM, the facility, its personnel, and the Russian contingent had all significantly dwindled. In the Marine campaign, Andrew "Frosty" Harrison reactivated certain facility systems, inadvertently disabling or severing numerous improvised security system implemented by the Iron Bears. The consequence of this action remains unclear, potentially leading to the entrapment or demise of the Iron Bears, as General Vasili Rykov speculates that "you might have killed more than we know." This event resulted in the loss of Dimitri, Dunya's fiancé, igniting her determination and setting her motives into motion.

In the game Primal Hunt, the Iron Bears assume a more prominent role. It is revealed that they were involved in a clandestine smuggling operation during the course of the storyline. Together with trusted personnel from the Facility they pursued the illicit trade of Pilot technology with the aim of increasing their financial gains. [1] The player assumes the role of Dunya in the game and experiences the events primarily from her perspective. As part of the gameplay, Dunya has the opportunity to witness and pilfer a Pilot device from a temple;[2] at the price of losing her comrades who accompanied her there. Subsequently, Dunya, along with a few remaining members of the Iron Bears, faces the challenge of escaping the pods and the Xenomorphs. Under Rykov's orders, she is tasked with retrieving the previously mentioned Artifact for immediate extraction. However, upon reaching the designated location, she observes the Predator seizing it; fortunately for Dunya, Rykov instructs Dunya to flee and assist other Iron Bears in their escape. Dunya manages to reunite with Dimitri exit the pods before their destruction, alongside other surviving members of the Iron Bears.[3]

Weapons and Equipment[]

The Iron Bears extensively employ a wide array of weaponry that bears resemblance to those utilized by the Colonial Marines. This correlation can be attributed to the fact that Weyland-Yutani, the manufacturer of several arms employed by the Colonial Marines, is also responsible for equipping the Iron Bears as they function as mercenaries under Weyland-Yutani's employ. Consequently, it can be reasonably assumed that the Iron Bears would wield firearms akin to those utilized by the United States Colonial Marines (USCM). Notably, the Iron Bears possess specialized motion trackers capable of scanning their surroundings within a full 360-degree radius.

Trivia[]

  • In multiplayer, the Runner class of Xenomorph is spawned by a facehugger impregnating members of the Iron Bears.
  • Although the Iron Bears organization is ostensibly of Russian origin, it is noteworthy that in Aliens versus Predator 2, only Rykov and Dunya possess discernible Russian accents, albeit subtly. The remaining encountered mercenaries exhibit distinct American or British accents. However, in the expansion pack Primal Hunt, a significant shift occurs, as all the Iron Bears, with the exception of Becker (who hails from Texas), prominently display strong Russian accents. Furthermore, Rykov and Dunya's accents become notably more pronounced in this expansion.
