David examining an Ampule.

Steatite Ampules,[1] also known as ampoules, Urns or Vases,[2] were cylindrical enclosures designed by the Engineers to establish and maintain the controlled environment necessary to store Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15, due to its highly unstable nature at standard room temperature.[1] The exterior surface of a Steatite Ampule was engraved with an informational placard.[1]

Overview[]

Within a Steatite Ampule, the A0-3959X.91 – 15 was contained by four conical-shaped glass vials. This was to ensure the agent's ability to retain infectivity and virulence after a prolonged period of storage. All Ampules were to be aligned in rows, kept at a distance of 0.9652 meters apart from one another. Errors in temperature stability seemed to be amplified with an increase or decrease in this distance.[1] As was the nature of the weapons, they were designed to release the AO-35959X.91-15 due to sensing sudden environmental changes, and deploy the chemical when sensing viable lifeforms nearby.
