Commander Eric Izzard,[2] better known as "Pop",[3] was a member of the United States Colonial Marine Corps. He was in command of the Weyland-Yutani Berserker hunter/killer team dispatched to DS 949 in response to the Xenomorph outbreak there.

Pops was the leader of the "berserker" team. He was tasked with taking his team to a space station to deal with the xenomorph infestation there, he was later contacted by the company and asked to eliminate all witnesses as the infestation was started by Weyland-Yutani. Pops had set a bomb on the station with the intention destroying the station along with everyone else. Pops attempted to convince Lara to join him as she was the only one he wanted to spare but she refused. While talking to her, he opened up a safe to get champagne, not knowing that Lara had earlier trapped a Facehugger within in it. Pops was attacked and subdued by the released Facehugger aboard DS 949 and left to his fate by Lara, although he perished when the station was destroyed by his own nuclear bomb, before a Chestburster could be implanted within him.

Personality

Despite being a Marine and on fairly good terms with his team, Pop's loyalties lay firmly with Weyland-Yutani, to the point where he was willing to sacrifice his entire team at the company's request, albeit reluctantly.

Trivia

  • The manner in which Pop succumbs to his fate is different in the novel, as in the comic Lara was at his mercy until he opened the refrigerator with the Facehugger inside, whereas in the novel, she manipulates him into opening it. Also while Lara merely leaves him to his fate in the comic, in the novel, she intentionally aids the Facehugger as she kicks Pop hard in the stomach while he is fighting off the Facehugger, allowing it to fully attach to him. Pop is also still conscious when the station explodes but is fully subdued in the novel.
