- "I saw a drum of this stuff fall into a beachhead bunker once. The blast put a tug in dry dock for seventeen weeks. Great stuff!"
- ―David (from Alien3)
David Postlethwaite was an inmate at the Fiorina "Fury" 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit, one of several who stayed behind after the facility was officially closed down by Weyland-Yutani. He was involved in battling a lone Xenomorph that was born in the prison in 2179.
David was killed acting as bait during a desperate attempt to lure the Xenomorph into the lead mold at the foundry alongside the prison.
On Fiorina 161
When Ripley entered the prison's mess hall to talk with Dillon, she sat with David, Junior, Gregor and the inmates' religious leader at their table, despite the obvious danger this put her in. After Superintendent Andrews was killed, David helped Ripley and Aaron gather the quinitricetyline the survivors planned to use to try and flush the Dragon out of the prison's ventilation shafts, having had prior experience with the highly volatile chemical.
When the plan failed, the remaining survivors were forced to use themselves as bait in an attempt to lure the Dragon into the prison's metal works, where it could be drowned in molten lead. Despite being both terrified and dubious that the plan would work, David agreed to take part. He discovered the remains of Vincent, the first prisoner to die during the chase, before himself encountering the Xenomorph. He almost perished when the door he was assigned to close initially failed to shut completely, finally slamming down when the Dragon was mere moments from rushing through. David subsequently stood guard at his door while the Xenomorph stalked other prisoners through the tunnels.
Eventually the Dragon entered a vent shaft and managed to sneak around behind David as he watched for it through the window in the door he was guarding. He didn't notice the creature until it was too late, and it killed him with a Headbite, driving its inner jaw straight through his head.
In the Special Edition, David was vocally opposed when Dillon suggested the survivors attempt to hole up in the assembly hall after Golic released the Dragon from captivity. When Morse suggested instead that they move to the foundry, David was in total agreement, and the prisoners subsequently made a run for the perceived safety of the furnace.
Personality and Traits
David seemed to be considerably more amicable and intelligent than many of the other inmates, especially with Ripley whom he engaged on an equitable level, although it is possible this behavior was simply out of a realization that she was in just as much jeopardy as the prisoners on Fiorina 161. Likewise, while he joined the other inmates in calling Aaron by his nickname "85", he did not appear to do it out of malice, but rather simply out of habit. Despite his generally more amiable nature, David was prepared to question Dillon's leadership when the two men disagreed.
