Dark Horse Digital is a subsidiary of Dark Horse Comics responsible for the publication of comic books in the digital format. It was established in 2011. Dark Horse Digital began as an online digital comics store and associated iOS app, with an Android app released in 2012. Any device with a modern web browser functionality can be used to read Dark Horse comic books via Dark Horse Digital's web store.

Since the Fire and Stone crossover event in 2014, all of Dark Horse's new Aliens, Predator, Aliens vs. Predator and Prometheus comics have had simultaneous digital releases through Dark Horse Digital. Prior to this, a handful of other new stories and much of the company's Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs. Predator back catalogue was also made available digitally.

Overview and Unavailable Comics

The first Aliens/Predator/Aliens vs. Predator comic to see a digital release was Aliens: Inhuman Condition, made available as part of the relevant issues of Dark Horse Presents, which has been published simultaneously in both physical and digital formats since June 2011. Following this, Dark Horse began releasing digital copies of the franchises' back catalogue from October 2012 onwards. While more recent series are available as individual issues, older series are only available in collected form. Furthermore, some shorter comics are only available packaged with other short stories. Also available from Dark Horse Digital are a range of cut-price bundles that offer multiple digital comics for a reduced price — the contents of these bundles typically conforms to one of the physical Omnibus collections from 2007/2008.

As with the Omnibus releases, the back catalogue collection of Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs. Predator comics available through Dark Horse Digital is not utterly exhaustive and a number of stories have not been made available digitally. Most notably, the majority of the numerous non-canon crossover comics that introduced the Xenomorphs and Yautja to other comic book franchises have not been made available — exceptions include the recent Archie vs. Predator and Aliens/Vampirella series, the three crossover stories featuring Judge Dredd, and a handful of DC Comics crossovers. However, unlike the Omnibus collections (which for obvious reasons do not contain any stories published after they were released), virtually all of the more recent Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs. Predator comic books are available digitally, including the Alien vs. Predator film tie-in comics Alien vs. Predator: Thrill of the Hunt and Alien vs. Predator: Civilized Beasts, the 2009 re-launch series Aliens: More Than Human, Predator: Prey to the Heavens and Aliens vs. Predator: Three World War, and all subsequent comic series.

Dark Horse Comics titles that have not be published digitally include:

Also unavailable in the digital format are the non-canon Aliens: Space Marines mini-comics and the incomplete series Aliens: Crusade.

*While the tie-in comic for the video game Alien: Isolation was given a digital release, it was only available for a limited time during December 2014, via the game's official website.
