"I don't mind the dark. I don't mind the bugs. I don't mind wandering around in some cold, wet, damp tunnel for a week at a time. I don't mind anything. But I mind Golic."
Rains (from Alien3 Assembly Cut)

Daniel Rains[3] was an inmate at the Fiorina "Fury" 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit, one of several who stayed behind after the facility was officially closed down by Weyland-Yutani. He was killed by a lone Xenomorph that was born in the prison in 2179.

Rains was slain by the Xenomorph while surveying one of the prison's many disused areas, along with his friend Edward Boggs.

Biography

Early life

Rains was sent to Fiorina 161 for committing "drug trafficking".[3]

At Fury 161

Rains was among the prisoners that chose to stay at Fiorina.

In the Assembly Cut, he and Boggs openly voice their opinions on fellow prisoner Golic, claiming that he is "crazy" and "smells bad", much to Dillon's annoyance and Golic's confusion.

He and Boggs are later seen in the lower tunnels, having been tasked with surveying the disused areas as well as finding any leftover supplies from unexplored parts of the complex. Rains is the one who notices the candles blowing out in the distance, and volunteers to relight them. As he inspects the corridor, a tank is knocked over in the adjacent tunnel, gaining his attention. He walks over and unknowingly stops next to the Alien. As he holds his torch over it, it attacks him, his screams echoing down the tunnels and alerting Boggs and Golic, who run in the opposite direction.

As they stop to breathe, Boggs and Golic find Rains' mauled corpse lying against the wall, revealing that they ran in circles.

Personality and Traits

Rains was known to be submissive, indecisive and a follower.[3]

Trivia

  • In the film, it is never particularly clear what Boggs, Rains and Golic are doing when they are attacked by the Runner, although it is suggested they are mapping an abandoned part of the facility. In the novelization, however, it is explained that they are foraging for overlooked provisions, left behind when the facility was shut down.[4]
