Dan Jolley is an American novelist and comic book writer who has written several comic books in Dark Horse Comics' Aliens line. He was notably the principle writer of the Aliens: Space Marines mini-comics, included exclusively with figures from Kenner Products' Aliens and Aliens vs. Predator toy lines, writing all but one of the thirteen entries in the series.

Biography[]

A multi-media writer, Jolley has been working professionally in the comics field since 1990. His Aliens work being early entries in his career (after his first work in The Mummy also from Dark Horse). He has branched out steadily since and his writing work now includes original and licensed novels, children's books and video games.

In the comics field, Jolley is most well known for his work on numerous series for DC Comics (Firestorm the Nuclear Man, Bloodhound, JSA: Liberty Files, Superman Adventures, Obergeist, Lazarus 5) and Devil's Due Publishing (GI Joe vs. The Transformers II, Micronauts, Voltron, GI Joe: Frontline).

He has also been one of the most in-demand freelance writers in the field in recent years, with work for a wide range of other comics companies as well, including Marvel (Doctor Strange, Sabretooth), IDW (Angel), Harris (Vampirella), Chaos (Purgatory), FC9 (Hell, Mchigan) and Humanoids (Metal Hurlant: Worship Service).

Jolley's work has also garnered a degree of critical and fan acclaim, with his limited series Obergeist voted Best Horror Comic of 2001 by Wizard magazine, and his DC Comics project JSA: The Unholy Three receiving an Eisner Award nomination for Best Limited Series of 2003.

The writer is also scripting several manga projects, including The Lost Warrior, which is an extension of the Warriors novel series by Erin Hunter.

May 2007 saw the debut of Jolley's first novel series, an original young-adult science fiction espionage story called Alex Unlimited, published by a joint venture of Tokyo Pop and Harper Collins. He has since written two books for that series. Meanwhile, he has also branched in licensed novel writing, with works including Angel: Vengeance, the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen junior novel, the Iron Man teen novelization of the 2008 film, and short story the anthology Star Trek S.C.E. Some Assembly Required.

Jolley also recently entered the children's book field, writing for two children's series: Graphic Myths and Legends and Twisted Journeys.

Jolley was on the design team of Icarus Studios' post-apocalyptic MMORPG, Fallen Earth. He now writes for video games from Activision and Ubisoft. In the video game field so far, he has worked on the games Transformers: War for Cybertron, Transformers: Cybertron Adventures for the Wii, and James Cameron's Avatar The Game for the Ninetndo DS.

Jolley lives in Georgia with his wife Tracy.
