Ah, thanks for getting around to starting to add the Omnibus entries, Cad. I had been saving it for when I was done with the creator entries, but that's taking a little longer than I'd anticipated. (I've got about 50 left to do for the Aliens series.) I think we might need to recategorize a bit, though.

It's not entirely accurate or helpful to term this subcategory "trade paperbacks" because almost every Aliens and Predator miniseries (well, most of the Aliens ones, anyway) were also released as separate trade paperbacks shortly after their initial comics run. Some being re-released again in a second tpb edition, before finally being collected in the omnibuses. (In the case of these previously TPB collected series, if one counts the initial comics release followed by the various tpb releases, the omnibus editions are sometimes actually the third or fourth printing of those stories.)

To create a new "trade paperback" subcategory would then require double or triple entries (or at least double or triple categorization) for every miniseries that was previously collected. All told this would be something like 20 or 30 of the existing miniseries. As you can see, once someone gets into the discussion of "trade paperbacks" or "graphic novels" it all can get potentially confusing. (some of the new tpbs editions were given new titles, others were not, some of the new tpb editions were actually collections of two miniseries, etc.)

There is also the rare case of stories that were ONLY released as TPB, as you've noticed, with the two recent AVP-movie spin offs Thrill of the Hunt and Civilized Beasts. But it's been very rare and I think these are better left as simple comics entries, to avoid opening the tpb can of worms (since technically these are ALL comics releases, be they in miniseries or tpb form).

I think the proper sub-category to add for now would just be "Omnibuses", or "Omnibus Editions" and leave it at that. Cheers.--SpaceWuss 15:24, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

I see your point about Thrill of the Hunt and Civilized Beasts. Those might be considered "single issues/stories", and the term is being used here to mean "collections of A/P/AVP comic book stories". I used Wookieepedia and Terminator Wiki as models for categorization, and that seems to be the common usage of the term. There's also a Trade paperback page provided for further explanation.

Here's what I'm thinking:

  • In cases like Aliens: Book One, Aliens: Nightmare Asylum (TPB), etc. I propose deciding on one of those names for the article, let's say we call it Aliens: Book One, for example. (I think it's the first collection of Aliens comics ever, plus I happen to own it! :))
  • In the article, we include a "Collected issues" heading, listing all the issues.
  • We also include an "Editions" heading and list all of the editions, plus maybe a "Differences" type heading, listing the changes between editions, including different issues.
  • Any edition with a noticeably different title like Aliens: Nightmare Asylum (TPB) could be redirected back to the parent article (in this case "Aliens:Book One"). The cool thing about that is that you can categorize a redirect page, if you only know it as the Aliens: Nightmare Asylum comics, it's on the list.

I’m still fine tuning, but the goal is always to make things easier to find quickly. Hollaback---CadmiumX99 18:30, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
