Mu Herculis A III, more commonly known as Bernice 378, was the third planet of the Mu Herculis A System approximately 27.10 light years Spinward-Coreward from Earth.[1]

History[]

While settling the planet, the United States Colonial Marine Corps set up a full-service base in the planet's lone mountain using a preexisting tunnel network. Larger caverns were repurposed as hangar bays for aerospace fighters, while the mountain's lode of heavy metals served as a natural fortification. The USCMC also made use of antechambers for armories, barracks, and tactical centers. The base housed USCMC's Herculis Marine Space Force 1st Colonial Support Group and a United States AeroSpace Force wing.[2]

In 2163, the Union of Progressive Peoples attempted to conquer the planet and the Tithonis Mountain base during the Battle of the Red Line.[2]

Flora and fauna[]

Flora[]

Bernice 378 hosted a type of algae.[2]

Fauna[]

A species of microbe was native to Bernice 378.[2]

Overview[]

Bernice 378 is the third planet in orbit around Mu Herculis A. Other than algae and microbes, the planet is lifeless. While the air is breathable, the planet is far enough away from its star that it is an arid tundra at the equator. The terrain there is mostly flatlands and valleys, but with one enormous mountain dominating the landscape. It’s here that the USCMC set up a full service base within an extensive, pre-existing tunnel network, presumably lava tubes, that spirals through Tithonus Mountain. Sprawling caverns at the base of the mountain make perfect hangar bays for aerospace fighters, and there are large antechambers inside for armories, barracks, tactical centers, and more. The base is home to the 1st Colonial Support Group. Normally, three Conestoga Assault Frigates will be on station, parked on the tarmac at Tithonus. Naturally composed of heavy metals, Tithonus is a fortified location—the base can take a nuke or two and would probably still be standing. While it never went that far, the base did see a lot of action when UPP ground forces tried to take the planet over during the Battle of the Red Line.[2]

Climate[]

Bernice 378's climate was arid. The mean temperature was 15°C, and the atmosphere was breathable for humans.[2]

Economy[]

Key resources on Bernice 378 included heavy metals and yttrium.[2]

Population[]

As of 2184, three thousand Colonial Marines were stationed on Bernice 378.

Points of interest[]

The Tithonis Mountain Military Base was located on Bernice 378. This installation served as the base of the USCMC 1st Colonial Support Group.[2]
