Aliens: Colonial Marines is an upcoming video game, due to be published by Sega in Fall of 2012 for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. There has also been news of a Nintendo DS version of the title. The game is being developed by Gearbox Software, who aim to create a FPS Aliens title which will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original Alien films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Alien experience. Events will take place after the death of Ellen Ripley in Alien 3 with the USCMC investigating the incident on LV-426 and taking them to other environments such as the spaceship Sulaco and the derelict Alien craft. There has been a number of production problems with the game incuding various release delays. A similar titled RPG game being cancelled. The deveopers at Gearbox Software are reportedly "working their butts off" on the title, with more news expected after the Aliens versus Predator game by Rebellion in February 2010. In some interviews SEGA will soon announce the game's release in a few months time.

GameplayEdit

The game was originally intended as a squad-based first person shooter, but was dropped to make gameplay more accessible.

To immerse the player, no HUD present in most FPS titles is visible on screen. Various types of enemy Xenomorphs will assault the player and their comrades each with different tactics. Quick time events will be used at certain times, such as a Facehugger attack. There will also be co-operative multiplayer modes available. Some gameplay actions are listed below.

The game will feature various types of gameplay, including quick-time events, where the player has to quickly press a button, location defence, which involves the player setting up turrets and traps to fend off waves of enemies. There has also been news of a new breed of xenomorph in the game that was viewed at E3 2011. This new xenomorph will charge at any unlucky marine and pin them against the wall which will result in death. There was also a view of a demo of the game as well.

The Xenomorphs will not be the only enemy in the game; players will also fight Weyland-Yutani commandos and mercenaries.

Gearbox was invited to speak with Ridley Scott and view the script for Prometheus, insinuating that there may be connections or references to the film on the game.

The first trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines came out on October 10th 2011 for the Xbox 360. While it was originally to come out in the spring of 2012 it has been pushed back to the fall.
