Alan Dean Foster is a prolific writer of science-fiction and media tie-in novels. His novels include novelisations of the first three films in the Alien franchise: Alien, Aliens and Alien³.

Additionally, Foster also wrote the novelisation of the film Darkstar (co-written by Alien writer Dan O'Bannon) and the novelisation of John Carpenter's "The Thing".
