The AR-15 Sporter-1 (SP1) is a semi-automatic variant of the AR-15 series of assault rifles. It was produced by Colt, the same manufacturer of the military M16 on the same production lines as the military rifle.
In Predator, Dutch and Billy use AR-15 SP1s, standing in for M16A2s, as their primary weapons. Dutch utilized his until the Jungle Hunter hit it with its Plasmacaster, causing Dutch to drop the weapon.
Behind the ScenesEdit
In Predator, Dutch's AR-15 SP1 is fitted with a fake M203 grenade launcher and a perforated forend typical for the M203, while Billy's AR-15/SP1 is fitted with a Mossberg 500 shotgun and M16A2 foregrips. Dutch's M203 was actually the exact same one previously used in the 1983 film Scarface during the iconic scene with the line "Say hello to my little friend!". Both rifles are fitted with M16A1 birdcage muzzle flash suppressors to appear more modern (they are likely AR-15 SP1s upper receivers over genuine M16 lower receivers, converted to full-auto by the armorers for the film). Both are also clearly fitted with blank adapters (which are visible sticking beyond the muzzle, out into the flash hider), which means they were real guns converted to fire blank rounds; many other guns in Predator also have these adapters visible.
