Question 1:
Facehuggers are hatched from Ovomorphs and plant the cancerous tumour that collects the DNA and uses the tissue of host to grow into a Xenomorph. So they're born from Xenomorphs and give birth to Xenomorphs, basically. So they're the species that Xenomorphs are, right? Well, a species is "a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding." The important bit there is "similar individuals". Facehuggers and Xenomorphs are not similar at all. But Xenomorphs reproduce using Facehuggers to spread the embryos and the infection of Xenomorphs. They aren't a different stage in the development or somesuch of Xenomorphs as they die after implantation.
So are Xenomorphs and Facehuggers the same species or not? Please don't answer with "They're aliens. It doesn't have to make sense." and "I don't know!" and anything similar to either.
Question 2:
The Predalien in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem implanted five Bellybursters (Chestbursters, except from the belly - appear only in this movie) in female hosts to create lots of Drones over a short amount of time (she ended up getting into the maternity ward of a large town and at the end of that scene had enough Drones to take over the whole town (which she did)). This is explained by Colin Strause: "Basically the Predalien's kind of a baby Queen - there's a phase in between Warrior alien and full-blown Queen...they do this thing with embryo implantation.. the idea with that was; how does a baby Queen quickly form her own little mini-Drone army to get the Hive built before she evolves into the final state where she can't completely defend herself?".
As you may know, between Warrior and Queen there is the Praetorian caste (which has recently started to be accepted as full canon due to a number of appearances with large amounts of continuity between them), which may be achieved by a few of methods: a Praetorian Facehugger (not really canon), a Warrior with no Queen developing into one before it becomes a Queen, a Warrior being fed Royal Jelly from its Queen (it has to be Jelly made by its Queen, not any other Queen), or a more complicated process. This one is where a Warrior is chosen by a Queen and starts to produce a pheromone that makes all nearby Warriors attack it - this is an ordeal designed to toughen it. If it survives and escapes it will begin to heal in a sort of cocoon and develop into a Praetorian.
The Praetorian caste is important because Xenomorphs have to be Praetorians in order to become Queens (unless they were the first implantation of a Royal Facehugger ). Praetorians have a large crest and are at least 10 feet (3 metres) tall. The Predalien from Gunnison also had these features (albeit a different shape of crest). However, they are features that all Predaliens shown so far have had, but only the Gunnison one had acted like a Queen - this is due to it being about to molt into one, as Strause explained. So my question is whether the Earth Predalien was a Praetorian (and if there is no physical difference between Drone/Warrior Predaliens and Praetorian Predaliens), or if Predaliens go straight to Queen from the equivalent of a Drone/Warrior of the XX121 strain (the Xenomorphs born from humans ). Interestingly, if the first comes to be true, then the 'Transbreed vs Purebreed' theory from AVP: Extinction will be proven wrong (the theory being "Drones, Runners, Warriors, and Predaliens are known as 'transbreed' Aliens. Different types of hosts produce different transbreeds, many of which possess attributes and abilities superior to those found in their hosts. Aliens such as Praetorians, Queens, Carriers, and Ravagers, however, are considered to be purebreed Aliens. They can spawn from any host and purely represent the multi-species interstellar parasite that is the Alien. While transbreeds enable Aliens to adapt to a target species, purebreed Aliens enable them to overpower it."). So, what do you think?
